Victoria Palace Hotel San Lorenzo de El Escorial / Madrid
A very old hotel, it was opened in 1906. In those days Queen Victoria used to come
here for her afternoon tea. This is why the name of the hotel.
During wars, both civil and world, it was used as a hospital.
Being refurbished and opened again as a hotel in 1955.
The place is in good condition, is one of those with Solera as they call it in Spain,
meaning something that still has good old taste, in a manner of speaking.
As you walk through the corridors of this old hotel the wood planks sounds
the same as those in old cowboy movies. The location of this hotel is already
a good reason to stay here, it is less than a couple of blocks from the monastery
which is without doubt the reason to come to El Escorial.
And a very good one too, because this monastery built by Philip the II,
is something everyone has to visit. There are no words to describe it well enough,
it is absolutely magnificent. The hotel itself, one could say, is still on very
acceptable condition, the rooms and bathrooms have been redone surely more
than once since 1955. Only air conditioning is lacking, but you only need it in summer. Which happens to be a time when this hotel is full with regular guests who have been coming here for years, some even thirty years without missing one!
The hotel offers 90 rooms equipped with telephone, TV, bathroom.
At our guests disposal are: bar/café, garden/terrace, heating, lift, meeting rooms, money
The hotel accepts major credit cards. |
